Youth in Ag off South Australia and Victoria to see grains innovation - July 18 to 27

A young growers’ tour will leave from Perth on July 18 to hit the road from Adelaide to Melbourne, taking in the Innovation Generation conference in Bendigo along the way.

The tour is aimed at anyone working in the industry who wishes to better understand all aspects of agriculture, especially the malt barley and legume markets and value adding options.

The tour will start with a visit to Coopers Malt and Brewery in Adelaide, before heading to the Adelaide hills to visit Prancing Pony Brewery.

The bus will then drive to Blue Lake Milling at Bordertown which manufactures cereal based foods and food ingredients. Then onto AGT foods at Horsham which is a global leader in value-added processing of pulses, staple foods and ingredients for export and domestic markets.

The weekend at Horsham will be spent visiting innovative farmers, Tim Mclelland and Tim Rethus and touring their properties, plus hearing what Birchip Cropping Group are up to and catching up with other young growers in the region.

Then it will be on the bus again for the Innovation Generation Conference at Ballarat, which lists a long list of inspirational speakers from across Australia and hundreds of young people in the agricultural industry are expected to attend the event which runs for two and a half days (including tours).

Two days in Melbourne will visit Nufarm and the Melbourne Port (with Emerald grain) and if you like can be finished with the Collingwood Vs Richmond game on the Friday night before flying back to Perth the next day.

The budgeted $1800 cost (this could change the later you book) will cover all travel, shared accommodation, and entry to the Innovation Conference.
