Funding Projects
  • Joint project with CBH Group to focus on High Moisture harvesting issues under which Nigel Metz is employed
  • AFFA (Dept of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Australia) Development Grant for Young people in rural industries - Nigel Metz will use this to travel to the eastern states and overseas to further study high moisture harvesting techniques
  • National Landcare Program Sustainable Agricultural System's project (now finished)
  • Funding for the Mt Madden Coordinated Site (in conjunction with the RAIN group)
  • GRDC funding for the SEPWA Beyond the Farm Gate Tour
  • Partners in Grain funding for the SEPWA Ladies Field Day

Trials
  • GRDC funded Wheat Agronomy Project run by Mohammad Amjad and Ben Curtis
  • GRDC funded Protein Project led by Jeremy Lemon with assistance from Penny Malone
  • Assessment of yield and protein forecasting systems by Jeremy Lemon (in partnership with the Birchip Cropping Group)
  • Farmer scale wheat and barley variety trials throughout the Esperance Port Zone

Other
  • Coordinated Trial Sites throughout the Esperance Port Zone
  • Employment of Nigel Metz as Trials/ Projects Coordinator
  • Employment of Catherine Field as Sustainable Farming Systems Officer (resigned in Nov 05)
  • Continued employment of Marnie Fels as Bookkeeper (part time)
  • Continued employment of Julia Ashby as Group Development Officer (part time)
  • Continued development of the SEPWA webpage (www.sepwa.org.au)
  • Continued involvement with the Grower Group Alliance
  • Development of an economic Harvest Loss model (for growers on the south coast to better understand the benefit of high moisture harvesting)

Grains Industry Lobbying
  • Sand in canola stack for 05 harvest
  • High moisture wheat trial in Esperance for 05/06 harvest
  • High moisture barley segregations in Esperance for 05/06 harvest

Agronomic Achievements
  • Annuello most successful wheat grown in the Esperance Port Zone (an outcome from the SEPWA wheat variety trials)
