Almost 80 invited guests attended the SEPWA Beef and Beer Night held on Monday, 17th September at the Esperance Bay Yacht Club.
Hugh Dunn, Long Island Brewing Company Executive Director, entertained guests with his descriptions of the four different beers tasted during the event.
Neil and Mary Wandel supplied the tender beef steaks cooked by the Rabobank staff.
CBH sponsored the event and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to meet people from the Liebe Group, GRDC, Western Regional Barley Council, Esperance Regional Forum, SEPWA and our sponsors.
Inspiration and Innovation at SEPWA Ladies' Day
August 2007
Award winning speakers from around Western Australia challenged and inspired attendees of the recent South East Premium Wheat Growers' Association Ladies' day.
Almost 160 women from all corners of the Esperance Port Zone took time out to be inspired by speakers on a wide range of relevant and timely topics.
The topics included innovative business ideas, share trading, soil health, nutrition, mental heather, weather maps, the SEPWA international study tour, estates and financial planning. Interactive sessions such as fitness and flexibility and belly dancing also provided plenty of enlightenment and entertainment.
Gemma Walker, SEPWA Executive Officer, stated that the speakers provided an inspirational platform from which it is hoped that women will spring into action.
Gemma said, "Pamela Lincoln, the 2007 RIRDC Rural Woman of the Year for WA, talked passionately about the future of rural communities and her organic and award winning business, Oranje Tractor Winery. Pamela's description of her instigation of the Albany Farmers' Markets sparked many comments and ideas."
"Feedback following the event has been very positive and the participants enjoyed the opportunity to network with others from the region and to learn skills and gain first hand knowledge which will assist to ensure the future sustainability of their business".
"The highly successful event was made possible through the generous support by SEPWA's sponsors as well as event sponsors: Partners in Grain, RRR Network, Esperance Small Business Centre, Farmbis and Department of Agriculture.
SEPWA Debrief and AGM
February 2007
The South East Premium Wheatgrowers Association’s premiere event of 2007 attracted an impressive line up of high profile speakers and almost 160 growers and industry representatives.
High profile people in the grains industry travelled from the Eastern State and around Western Australia to Esperance on Friday, February 23rd, to participate in a debate which has already divided the WA farming community.
The “Future of Grain Marketing” panel explored a range of scenarios to assist growers to better understand the implications of some of the marketing options which may be available in the future.
SEPWA President Chris Reichstein urged farmers to come along and participate in the debate on the pros and cons of deregulation versus the single desk for wheat marketing.
Rather than take a stance on how grain marketing should be structured in the future, SEPWA sees its role as facilitating debate on both sides of the argument in farmers can arrive at their own conclusions.
